About the partnership with Kloepfel, social commitment and passion for FC Schalke 04
Georg Delker is already part of the second generation of the Delker GmbH & Co. KG. The medium-sized wholesale company has been supplying high-quality electric tools, warehouse and factory equipment, occupational safety equipment, precision technology and machine tools for over 50 years. It has customers in all sectors of trade and industry. In our interview, Georg Delker tells us about the recently concluded cooperation with Kloepfel Consulting, where the focus of the cooperation will be, what makes DELKER stand out and why the company sponsors FC Schalke 04.
Mr Delker, why did you decide to cooperate with Kloepfel Consulting?
Kloepfel is a qualified purchasing service provider and is already well known to us through similar encounters such as the BME Symposium. In good coordination talks we quickly found each other.
What is the focus of the cooperation with Kloepfel?
Since the beginning of the first meeting both sides have noticed that there are many interesting synergies of the cooperation. DELKER, just like Kloepfel, is closely connected to the topics of purchasing optimization and process optimization.
We quickly realized that it makes a lot of sense to combine the strengths of both companies in order to offer our joint services to many medium-sized customers and thus to be able to offer success and improvements for all sides.
DELKER recently celebrated its 50th birthday. Let’s think back to the beginnings: What was the impulse to found the company?
The three founders, Friedrich Delker, Heinz Beyer and Karl-Heinz Meinrich, worked together in a traditional and well known family hardware store.
The development was in sharp decline and so the three founders decided to start their own business. This was then on 01.01.1969 in Turmstraße in Essen city centre. Fortunately, they could fall back on well-founded expert knowledge and an already very loyal clientele, so that the start could already be built up very successfully in the first years.
What distinguishes DELKER today above all? How has the company developed?
Since its foundation DELKER has been a very down-to-earth company which scores highly and is popular with all business partners with its values of trust, openness and directness. Flexibility and customer orientation play a central role, so that most of our customers have concentrated their cooperation on the DELKER company for a very long time. Especially medium-sized and large companies are addressed by the high performance and are well cared for.
DELKER has an excellent mix of the following factors: Company size, experience, reputation, quality, service, wide delivery range, flexible fulfilment of customer requirements, very efficient e-procurement and outstanding references as well as comprehensive knowledge in internationalization and e-business.
DELKER has grown steadily and is currently writing the best figures in its company history.
What types of companies usually source your products and what challenges do they face?
DELKER is the ideal supplier for medium-sized and large companies that would like to be served nationwide and therefore have a relatively large demand. No matter if tools, work safety equipment, precision engineering or solutions for warehouse and factory equipment. Here, all industries of great relevance are served, from the metalworking industry, automotive, pharmaceutical and chemical companies to the energy and transport industry as well as the construction and trade sectors. Our customers rely on DELKER products because they can rely on the high quality for which our name stands.
A prominent feature is your services and your commitment to networking. What drives you in this respect?
Digitization plays a very central role for a service provider like our company. We are now very successfully active with our customers on 36 marketplaces and platforms with several hundred electronic catalogs.
It has a reason, that almost 80 % of the customer orders we receive are already sent to us electronically.
“DELKER to Business” refers to our own DELKER shop, which we operate very efficiently via our homepage and in the connection to our customers.
We can also deal with topics such as free text enquiries and orders.
Meanwhile the topic e-business has a turnover share of almost 20% and we expect that in the next 10 years this share will grow towards 50%. For us, this is the future and a sustainable development.
DELKER has recently started its own product series “Blue Power”. What are the advantages of the “Blue Power” range for your customers?
With this development DELKER offers an important feature of independence.
Only a few important suppliers in our market can fall back on their own trade brand. Here we offer an excellent price-performance ratio and an already quite balanced large range with very good alternatives to the branded products and also products that can only be obtained from DELKER.
DELKER has been an official sponsor of FC Schalke 04 since 2018. Why did you take this step?
DELKER is a company with heart and soul for which hard work and authenticity are very important. As children of the Ruhr area we speak a clear, direct and open language and identify very strongly with FC Schalke 04.
We would like to continue our strong development in recent years by cooperating with FC Schalke 04.
The commitment to socially disadvantaged people, especially in our own region, is an important issue for DELKER. How does DELKER support social projects on site?
We support the regional soccer club Blau Weiß Mintard in Mülheim as well as the tennis club TV Rellinghausen in Essen.
We are also an active member of the Förderturmprojekt and have taken over the sponsorship for Yaya, a boy from Guinea-Bissau.
Last year, during our anniversary event, we donated the proceeds of the raffle to the “McDonald’s Haus in Essen – Kinderstiftung” and to “Schalke hilft”.
