In April this year, the market for commercial vehicles in the EU collapsed drastically due to the corona pandemic. According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), 61,369 new vehicles were registered in the month. This is 67 percent less than in April last year. The effects of the corona crisis hit all 27 EU markets and every commercial vehicle segment during this period.<\/p>\n
In April, the drop in registrations was particularly strong in Spain (minus 87.8 percent compared to last year), Italy (minus 85.5 percent) and France (minus 82.4 percent). In Germany, registration figures in April fell by 45.1 percent compared to the same month last year.<\/p>\n
In the first quarter of this year as a whole, demand for c in the EU fell by 34.5 percent compared with the first quarter of last year. The number of newly registered commercial vehicles in the EU in the first four months of this year was 473,910. As the reason for the lower figure, ACEA cites in particular the impact of the coronavirus on the March and April figures. During this period, registration figures fell by 46.6 percent in Spain, 41.6 percent in France, 41.4 percent in Italy and 22.5 percent in Germany.<\/p>\n
In the first four months of this year, 64,456 commercial vehicles with a total weight of 16 tonnes or more were sold in the EU, 35.4 percent less than in the same period last year.<\/p>\n
Demand for medium and heavy commercial vehicles with a gross weight of over 3.5 tonnes was 33 per cent lower in the first quarter of this year compared with the same quarter last year. Of these, 79,954 were registered in the EU in the first four months of 2020.<\/p>\n
For light commercial vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes gross weight, the number of registrations in the EU in the first quarter of 2020 was 385,405, 35.1 per cent lower than in the same quarter last year.<\/p>\n
