By means of the transitional arrangements, 5,000 truck drivers and 5,500 poultry processing specialists will be recruited. Under the transitional arrangements, workers in the UK will be allowed to work until Christmas. The goal is to fill any toy stores and supermarkets by the holidays.<\/p>\n
The Road Haulage Association, the industry body, has said that there is a shortage of 100,000 drivers in the country. As a result, Britons have had to contend with empty supermarket shelves. Now supply shortages are also occurring in gas stations. In addition, there are other industries that are struggling with oversized supply shortages. The problems stem from stricter immigration rules, coupled with Brexit.<\/p>\n
Transport Minister Grant Shapps says visas will be valid from October. Truck drivers are advertised with a package of measures. The army is also being deployed. The latter is to second driving instructors so that more driving tests can be conducted.<\/p>\n
However, the European Road Haulers Association stresses that the visas envisaged will not be enough to ease the supply bottlenecks. Therefore, an easing of the immigration regulations is rather necessary, it says. Secretary General Marco Digioia says, “There is a driver shortage all over Europe.” Therefore, he says, it is questionable how many drivers will choose the UK.<\/p>\n
