The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) has announced that a total of 241,330 new passenger cars were registered in Germany in March. This represents a 17 percent decrease in new registrations compared to the same month last year. It is reported that 626,000 new vehicles were recorded after the first quarter of this year, which is five percent less than the same quarter last year. Compared to 2019, new car registrations in the first quarter of 2022 are down 29 percent. The lack of input products continues to weigh on production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In March of this year, new domestic orders grew six percent compared to March 2021. Compared to the same quarter last year, there were 22 percent more orders. By contrast, incoming orders from abroad fell. 20 percent fewer orders were received than a year earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
German passenger car production fell sharply in March. According to the VDA, the reason for this was initially the war of aggression between Russia and Ukraine. A total of 267,600 passenger cars were produced last month. In the entire first quarter of this year, 829,100 passenger cars were produced in Germany, which represents a 12-percent decrease compared to last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The VDA revised its production forecast for 2022 downward. Now, domestic production is expected to increase by seven percent to 3.3 million passenger cars. Previously, 13 percent was assumed. The previously expected five percent increase in foreign production, has now been corrected to two percent and 9.6 million vehicles produced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The extremely dynamic circumstances, in particular the possible extension of sanctions against Russia and additional uncertainty factors, such as possible production losses in China as a result of the zero-covid strategy, could make further adjustments to the forecasts necessary in the coming months,” explains VDA President Hildegard M\u00fcller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
