The BMW Group is continuing its investments in expanding electric component manufacturing in Leipzig to reinforce the site’s future orientation. According to BMW, a land lease agreement was signed with the city of Leipzig outside the factory premises in the Industrial Park Nord, the same area where the BMW plant is located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The area to be used by BMW in the future spans 12 hectares, with the initial construction covering eight hectares in the first phase. Completion is scheduled for mid-2024. The construction projects include the establishment of a logistics hall for high-voltage batteries of the current 5th generation, as well as the construction of an office building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BMW also continues to report that in the first construction phase, a warehouse will be built, along with a two-story office building and a loading tunnel with approximately 38,000 square meters of gross floor area. The planning already considers a potential second construction phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If both phases are implemented, the BMW Group plans to invest up to 100 million euros, according to their own statements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The BMW Group aims to achieve a share of one-third fully electric new vehicles in total sales by 2026. This is expected to lead to increased demand for high-voltage batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the design of the logistics hall, ecological standards have been taken into account, which, according to BMW, go beyond legal requirements. The operation of the buildings, for example, is carried out without fossil fuels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The roof of the hall will be equipped with photovoltaic panels capable of producing around 3,000 kilowatts of power. Additionally, the hall will be heated using a heat pump. The roof of the office building will be greened, and fa\u00e7ade trees in specific areas will help reduce temperatures inside the building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over 5,700 shrubs and trees will be accommodated on the outdoor area, where they are planned to be newly planted. The collaboration between the city of Leipzig and the BMW Group in the Industrial Park Nord contributes to expanding the green belt around the plant through these greening initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
